About this idea
One vehicle per tray, a road made of a strip of grey card, and a garage built from whatever blocks are to hand. Children add passengers, passengers add sounds, and the sounds are the part they remember. Name the vehicles as they are added — this is the vocabulary, arriving through play rather than in a flashcard. A tractor and a fire engine in the same tray produces argument and negotiation, which is the most valuable thing a small world does.
